About Josh
Josh is Chief Executive of Smartway Pharmaceuticals, a UK-licensed wholesale dealer of medicines operating within regulated markets across the globe.
With a background spanning regulatory compliance, pharmaceutical licensing and international market access, Josh has grown Smartway from a domestic wholesale operation into a business with active commercial partnerships across multiple international jurisdictions - including the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific - with a focus on expanding patient access to regulated pharmaceuticals through compliant, innovation-led supply chains.
Josh has a particular interest in the intersection of technology and GxP compliance. Under his leadership, Smartway has invested in the development of internal regulatory intelligence and compliance systems designed to strengthen supply chain assurance, counterparty risk management and operational oversight within complex international pharmaceutical supply chains. This approach has drawn recognition from regulatory authorities for its contribution to supply chain integrity. This commitment to technology-enabled compliance directly supports the Association’s mission of raising standards and sharing good practice across the pharmaceutical distribution sector.[CJJ1.1]
Beyond Smartway, Josh has supported and invested in a number of regulated healthcare and life sciences ventures, including businesses involved in pharmaceutical development, licensing, manufacturing and healthcare infrastructure. His experience supporting businesses from early-stage development through to regulatory approval and commercial deployment has provided first-hand exposure to the operational, regulatory and governance challenges associated with scaling innovative healthcare ventures.
Josh regularly engages with manufacturers, healthcare providers, regulatory professionals and sector stakeholders on issues relating to pharmaceutical access, operational governance and supply chain resilience. Through his committee role, Josh contributes to the Association’s strategic direction and member guidance initiatives, drawing on operational and regulatory experience built across more than a decade in the pharmaceutical sector. Josh holds a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Medicine.
He brings to the Committee an operator’s understanding of the pressures facing growing pharmaceutical businesses, and a demonstrated commitment to the regulatory innovation that protects patients while enabling the kind of commercial progress the sector needs.
