The MHRA expects Responsible Persons named on a Wholesale Dealer's Authorisation (WDA) to maintain a programme of Continuing Professional Development. While there is no fixed statutory hours requirement, the MHRA's GDP Inspector's expectation aligns with general regulated-profession guidance: around 30 hours per CPD year (1 April – 31 March) for established RPs, with new entrants and high-change roles needing more.
What counts as CPD includes: structured learning (courses, webinars, conferences), self-study (reading MHRA bulletins, EU GMP/GDP guidance), workplace training, peer discussions, and reflective practice on inspection findings or deviations.
Why track it?
An MHRA inspector will routinely ask to see CPD records as evidence that the RP is maintaining the knowledge required by the licence conditions. A clean, dated log with categorisation and attached certificates is the cheapest insurance you can hold.
